Updating your home can be overwhelming. If you’re not ready for a full-on remodel, or just looking for some change, there are plenty of things you can do to give your home a fresh modern look. Here are 5 recommendations to freshen your home with a modern update!

Shape
Look for furniture that is square or rectangular. Modern style tends to rely on simple designs and straight lines. Simple does not mean boring! Simple can be clean lines, geometric shapes, and neutral colors. A marble coffee table is great to give your living room that luxe look!
High Contrast
Try pairing a sleek black coffee table with a white couch. The contrast between the two heightens the visual interest in the room without having to worry about your furniture choices going out of style. I will talk about this in other sections but having pops of color contrast your more neutral room allows for the color to really shine! Contrast can give your space that wow factor without having it professionally designed. Another way to add contrast is with shape; if your kitchen is full of geometric lines, add some round lighting fixtures over the island to contrast.
Stand Out Pieces
If you’re someone who loves simplicity, then modern design is for you. Just because something is simple does not mean it has to be boring! You may have a simple, streamlined table paired with a bold print. This allows for a pop of color in your space while maintaining that modern feel. That to me is what makes modern design so fun; you have the flexibility to add your own personal touch to the space. The foundation of your home has a clean look so far, so adding pops of color is a great way to add your own flair. Wall décor is a great way to add color, while still blending in those neutral colors as well.
Material Finishes
The thing I love about modern design is the finishes! Many people think of plain white rooms when they think of modern design, but that is not true at all. Natural finishes are big in modern design, think of wood, marble, cork, or leather. As you can probably see by now, all of these elements mix together to create your own modern style. Need something to warm up your living room? Try a wood coffee table to keep the natural feeling, while still making the space feel a bit cozier.
Brighten Up That Room
This may tie into the standout pieces section above; like I said modern design utilizes color- sparingly. This allows for the color to really pop against its surroundings and give a fresh feel. Some of my favorite ways to add color are with pillows or décor, that way you can swap it out whenever making it a little more affordable to switch your style.
