Bedrooms are supposed to be the one place we are meant to relax and mentally shut down, but unfortunately, many people feel that their bedroom doesn’t feel relaxing. I think we can all agree that most of us overwork ourselves physically, mentally, or both. Especially with working from home rising in popularity, there needs to be a hard line between your work life and personal life. If your bedroom is cluttered, there’s a high chance you won’t be able to fully relax and shut down your thoughts. If you are looking for some ways to help build your own “oasis” this is for you!
Declutter your space
Clutter is one thing that drives me crazy! I can never fully relax until my space is clean and decluttered. One simple way to fix this problem is to add chic furniture that provides discrete, yet ample storage. I’m someone who LOVES symmetry, so I suggest matching bedside tables, but you can always break it up with a fun sideboard, or bench at the end of your bed to add visual interest.
Upgrade your linens
Let’s face it… no one likes an uncomfortable bed. There’s nothing worse than going to a hotel, getting in bed, and the sheets feel scratchy. Good bedding is worth every penny! Feeling comfortable is a major factor in being able to relax and decompress after a long day. I recently bought a set from Cozy House Collection and have been loving them!
Personalize Your Space
Creating a peaceful space doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Use your bedroom as a space to personalize the experience. You want to surround yourself with things that make you feel comfortable and yourself. This can be done with fun wallpaper or paint, or something as simple as décor.
Make a Cozy Nook
If you have the space, creating a cozy sitting area in the corner is a great way to provide yourself a space to either start or end your day. This space can be dedicated to reading that book you’ve been meaning to finish or to simply sit in silence and meditate before your long day.
Have a statement wall
Creating a statement wall is another great way to make this space unique to yourself. Whether you want a bright pop of color or an accent wall with wallpaper, this can add a great touch to your space. This also pulls the whole room together and makes it look like it has been designed by a professional. Choosing a wallpaper that resembles nature may be a great way to break the barrier between indoors and outdoors, which tends to help create a calming space.
Layers
No one wants a room that feels boring and baren… at least I don’t. Minimalism has a time and a place, but bedrooms are not that! Rugs are a great way to add dimensionality and texture to your space, without making the room feel cluttered. This is another great way to bring in color without having to repaint walls. Choosing a shaggy rug makes your space feel cozier, where a bright rug may add personality and color.
Scent
This is one where people can take it or leave it, but I think the scent of a room is so important. I’m typically a sucker for candles, but obviously, you don’t want to leave a candle burning overnight. Wall plug-ins are a good solution but don’t always look great in the space. That’s why I love diffusers! Not only do they produce wonderful, long-lasting scents, but they look chic and don’t take away from the overall design of the room.
Lighting
Adding lighting aside from the standard can lighting to your bedroom makes the space feel unique and customized to YOU. Whether you want a boho beaded chandelier or bedside lamps, the lighting you choose puts the finishing touch on your bedroom design. Adding a chic chandelier may make your room feel more elegant and transform it into your own oasis!
Accents
Lastly… accessorize! I know I mentioned that you typically don’t want your bedroom to feel cluttered, but some décor pieces here and there really pull your space together and make it look complete. You don’t want to go overboard but adding a vase or small object on your bedside table is just enough to make your design look like it's right out of a magazine. After all, design is in the details!
